Field Studies Benefits for Teachers
The UEI curriculum is designed to seamlessly connect with standard science texts. Our goal is to supplement, not alter, existing classroom goals and teaching responsibilities. Further, the UEI professional development network links teachers with colleagues in the area who are also doing research with UEI. UEI offers its teacher partners the following support:
Field Assistants
UEI provides an AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) member or a community volunteer to teachers who meet necessary eligibility requirements. VISTAs visit classrooms on a regular basis to support classroom teachers via planning an preparation of field studies curriculum, content gudiance, and materials support. Priority for VISTA placement is given to teachers in the Boston Public Schools district.
Equipment and Transportation

Field assistants will provide instruction in proper use of equipment. UEI will also assist teachers in seeking grants and funding for purchasing their own set of field studies equipment. UEI can also provide transportation to field sites by chartering buses.
